I got a call yesterday from an old customer. Roy and I have done many jobs for her and many more folks that live in SLCC. It's a Mobile Home Park. I used to live there myself. The people here have pretty much very friendly and ask for some help every once and a while. So, I came out and noticed the water heater was leaking. Plus, she doesn't have any hot water now. Roy my friend that usually helps me. He hurt his back a little while back. So, I didn't want him to come out and get more hurt. I looked up the tank itself and it would cost $450.00. It weights 92 pounds. Plus, valves and hoses and pretty much everything cost around $520.00. I would charge her depends how long it would take me to put everything back together. Say $200.00 =$720.00.
Okay the problem was I needed help to pick up the water heater and put it back into place. I really don't know anyone anymore. I would hate to have someone help me and get hurt. So, I told her I am sorry I just can't do it myself.
We talked about calling someone else. She found a couple of Plumbing Companies that could help her out.
I would try to keep the pipes left alone on the floor. That is where I would need help picking the water heater up and sliding it in place.
Just a NOTE. Yesterday while I was driving around, I saw a water heater on the side of the road and said, I haven't done one of those for a while now.
Looking back now, I think the Lord was telling me that I should do that job. He is right next me every day.
Well, I text her this morning and she told me that the company charged her $1782.70.
Okay thinking out loud. Yes, companies have over head. Plus, vehicles and tools and insurance. The guys to do the work. But still think about the customer in mind. Retired, just getting by. My heart goes out to them.
FOLKS this woman is retired and only gets Social Security. I have written to a couple of folks in the park asking if they know anyone on the board there. I would love to ask that they start a handyman program there. Hey, pay them, but will be fair prices.
I have been called to serve others and I try to be fair.
On Judgment Day He will be looking things over and say what about you?
