This is Calvary Bible, Nassau, Bahamas. There is a Mission Conference, it's their 50th year.
This is Pastor Mark. He works alongside with John MacArthur. (I think). The reason he really was there was not to talk about the ministry he is part of. He was here to share about how Calvary Bible Church has many missionaries around the world doing God's work.
We will be back here this evening. At 6pm.
This is Solomon's and Cost Right. Now Solomon's was set up and looked very much like a Walmart. They were even called the Super Store. I don't know the story about what happen. All I know now is, they look like any grocery store that is in the states.
Now folks prices here have always been much higher in the Bahamas. First of all, everything is shipped over here and then there is Duty and now VAT Tax.
Now this really kind of surprised me. We buy these at Sam's Club for $20.00+.
Jeanne and I buy this at Sam's Club for two jars for this price. It's funny, while I lived here, I use to ask people. When coming over here to help us the Adventure Learning Centre, if you want to bring me anything. I would love two jars of Jif peanut butter. People would bring me some. Folks I had many days, of eating peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. I still eat them here in the states.
Wow, these items in the trunk came to $116.00+ Just think if you live here in the Bahamas, how much it cost you each week for groceries.
Okay it's getting lunch time. Jeanne really enjoyed herself while here before.
I stopped at Twin Brothers for some conch salad. The gentlemen on the right was the one that made my salad. It was very enjoyable and refreshing.
We haven't eaten here. Just wanted to share what is cost to eat.
My baby has been reading about this place since we got here. It is rated one of the highest rating on the island. 5 out of 5 restaurant. The Grill Master. So, she asked the owner (Mark) if he has lobster. Sure do, pick one out and he will grill it for you.
Meanwhile these folks asked if we would like to join them? Sure would. Thia way Jeanne could find out things about the Bahamas and other things. While sitting here, found out that this couple is from Cayman Islands. They are visiting here with a friend; I was sitting next to him. Sorry forgot his name. But he lives here in Nassau. He meet them a few years ago on a curse ship in the Cayman Islands. They became friends and have done other things together. Okay, Mark brought out their food. Boy that is sure a huge lobster tail.
Say his name is Bob, (don't remember his name) He ordered a full lobster. crazy how big he is she is.
As they were about to leave, I asked if I could take their picture? Sure can. While they were leaving, the young lady only ate half of her lobster tail. Jeanne was talking with her and Mark asked if she wanted to take the tail home with her. She told him no thinks. So, Jeanne and I packed it up with us to go boxes.
I got jerk chicken and boy it sure was very tasty. Plus, a lot to eat. To go boxes please.
This is Mark, while being here, we found out some things about him and meant his brother too. Now look at this lobster tail my little girl got.
Well, we are back at Calvary Bible. This was where we had Sunday School this morning before church. Pastor Mark stated the Missions Conference. We had a couple of videos of folks at different parts of the world to share their stories. Plus there was a nice spread of different kinds of food, from around the world to take out, after the first meeting, before we went into the church for the service.
These are some of the missionaries that Calvary support.
This is Mark Walace. He has lived here for many years now. Mark first came here and was a missionary for the Adventure Learning Centre. Mark was the over seer of the Planetarium. Mark has had a heart for sharing the Gospel. Which
he loves doing each and every day while teaching and doing the Planetarium.
All these pictures have been taken on the big screen. So, they are not that clear. But you can see what they started with 2024.
The grounds haven't been taken care for many years now. It like the staff left this place to fall apart and didn't really care what happen to it. It was a very sad day when Don Thomason took these pictures (I think). He was part of a group that came to help clean this place up and try to get things back in order.
We used to have four school buses. They were sold off or stolen. I am not sure what happen to them and all the other things that are missing. John Deere Trailer, Bobcat (want a be) So many things just gone.
We used to have four horses, Gold Dust (Miniature horse) Moma Coal, her son was Eclipse. The horse you see here is Thor. All of the horses have been sold or dead at the cantre.
This train was the main ride for the children to take around the back dirt road to the Wet Lands.
During this time, we would ask the children to close in pray with the staff. .After this time the children would load back up in the buses and be taken back to their school.
Folks this Centre was my life and everything that happen here I was part of. The train would break down, I was there to repair it. Buses same. There have been many projects and things that happen at The ALC. We used to have groups come in the help us too. That made my life much better. More hands to help out and just nice to have the company around.
I was there for 9 years, 2005 to 2014. I started out being the Camp Director. Then after a little while Will Scott (Maintenace guy) and his wife left to go back to Wisconsin. So, I was asked to oversee the Maintenace and run the Camp. Overall, it was very challenging and rewarding at the same time. I really enjoyed fixing something and watch the children get to ride what I repaired. Like the Train.
I do miss helping out there, but since this last December, I turned 73 years old. Not sure if I still have the strengthen to do it again?
All I know is my Lord has been in every part of this place, and He is the One that makes things happen. I still to this day, depend on Him and only Him.
