Another Neat Week-end

This one week-end just passed, we had a group of Rastafarians. If you have any idea what they believe, you are looking at this blog now, with a wearded face. The reason I say this is that Rastafarians are known by the use of a called , (they call it ), for their (spiritual) religious purposes. The verses that they use to back this are. Psalms 104:14 He cause the grass to grow for the cattle. And vegetation for the service of man. That he may bring forth food from the earth. Another verse is Genesis 3: 18 Both thrones and thistles it shall bring forth for you. And you shall eat the herb of the field. One more verse is Exodus 10:12 and the last one is Proverbs 15:17. You can get the idea that you can make these verses work for them. Now back how did they get to stay at the Adventure Learning Centre Camp? Well when the man named Paul came to pay for their deposit, I ask him if he knew that we are Christian Camp? He said yes sir. Then even Dan that ran the camp before me talked with him too. So we decided to let them stay, as long as I kept an eye them. Which I did, no real problems except one night they had a song singing night and morning, until 5am. The only reason I know is that Will and his wife live on the campus and they ask me to talk with them about not having anything pass 10pm. Which that day I ask and told them that. No problem at all. They were excepting about 80 people, but I guess our Lord just protected us and only had 9 to 10 at one time. I tried to listen to the songs that they were singing but I just could not understand Jamaican. The reason for this time of them coming together was so they could get all the same page in what they believe. I did walk in during their time of watching videos, which the ones I saw was on Slavery and even a on the Second World War about the Jews being taken to the camps to be killed. Now after I saw these two movies, I talk with a , I asked her why do you guys watch about the pass, what about the future, The of Jesus Christ. She just told me that they need to see the history and to understand it. I jus told her that the of Jesus is the only thing that you need to move forward. She understood but not. I have so much more to share about the week-end but I know by now you are boarded. So if you want to learn more about them. Check out this web page. Rastafari, www.swagga.com/rasta.htm and this will show you so much more about why they are the way they are. It is sad to see people that don’t take Jesus as the Lord and Savor, which He is. Bye for now. Tom, Phil 4:13

Just one of two signs at the church I go to. Posted by Picasa
This is the Last of the Commandants of Driving.

The tenth commandant had to do with parking. In down town Nassau it’s OKAY to park whatever you want to. You just have to Have faith that you can make anything into a parking space for your car. You can park in the NO PARKING ZONE spots. You can park in HANDICAPPED ZONE. You can park in LOADING ZONES. You can park behind other park cars whether there is a space or not. You can park on the wrong side of the side if you happen to see a friend driving the other way and want to stop to chat with them. In case the commandants also apply to your friends, so do not worry about blocking on coming traffic. You have the PARKING RIGHT OF AWAY. Have faith! The final and greatest commandant to do unto others as you would have others do unto you. If another driver cuts you off, that is an obvious sign that they are inviting you to do the same to them so do it. If another driver does not signal to take you lane and cut you off, then that is a clear signal that you should do that too. Since all other drivers are following this last great commandant, watch what they do and do it right back to them or to others. Remember, Have Faith!!!!!
Now you all know that this is just for fun and in real life here, they do look out for you and when you do want to get out in the main road, they will let you in and then you give them a small beep that is to tell them Thank you for letting me in. If you hear a car coming and they beep twice better look out, because they are coming ready or not. Please don’t take this as the way they drive here. I really do enjoy how they are just driving along and just stop to talk with family or friends. I think that is so neat to see how everyone knows others and they take the time to stop. Like I said before, I am from Fort Lauderdale, Fl and they drive for their own way and there is no rhyme or reason. Just know that we all have a responsibility to help and look out for our brothers and sisters. Please enjoy this day and I will be writing on something else next time. Bye for now, Tom, Phil 4:13
This is Part #3 for the Commandments of Driving.

The seventh commandant has to do with turning a corner to enter a two-lane, one way street. Before you turn the corner, you should know exactly where you are going. This is very important since it show planning and attention to your driving. Do not let traffic in either lane hinder you. Simply have Faith and proceed to drive into lane you want. Again your Faith will been seen by other drivers and they will create a space for you. Have Faith! The eighth commandment has to do with changing lanes” turning a corner or turning into a parking spot anywhere across the street. This really about who has the right of way. Always assume that YOU have the right away and TAKE it right away. This is your chance to paying attention. DO NOT do anything to let people behind you or coming at you in other lane know what you are going to do and do not wait to do it. Everyone likes surprise and this is your chance to make someone happy. Just go about your driving as if no else was on the street. Do what you want, when you want, the way you want regardless of on coming traffic. Consider it your contribution to keeping everyone on their toes and Have Faith that everyone will be ready for anything you can do to surprise them. Have Faith! The ninth commandant has to do with posted limits. Assume that the real speed limit is as fast as you can go. This is true especially when you cannot see a speed limit sign. You happen upon other drivers who are not as skilled as you and who do not have cars as good or fats as yours, just go around them. Don’t worry about on coming traffic. Have Faith that those drivers will see you on the wrong side of the road and will slow down, turn to the curb to give you room or stop to allow you to get safely back on your side of the road. You are in a hurry and others should be considerate and give you space to go. Have Faith! Bye for now.

This is just one area that has a light. The day was Sunday afternoon. It toook me over 45 minutes to get through this light. The reason is that the street just pass this one is a short cut and everyone knows that. Except you know, me.  Posted by Picasa
Part Two On The Commandments

This is the fourth commandment has to do with painted lanes marker on the pavement. DO NOT believe the painted marks on the pavement. They were probably put there by a political appointee and you should not take them seriously. If you are at a stop light where the right lane says RIGHT TURN ONLY, you may ignore that if you are stuck in a line of traffic, in the left lane. Just go into the turning lane and when the light changes drive straight through and Have Faith those drivers on the left will let you in. This is an especially good commandment in heavy, rush traffic when your time is more important than that of others else in the line. Have Faith! The fifth commandment has to do with RIGHT TURN. This saves time and distance. If you do this often enough you can save many miles on your odometer. Another advantage of doing this is that you have a chance to really scare the person on your right who is waiting at the STOP/ YEILD sign on the street you are turning into. If you are behind a person who is mistakenly making a curved right turn, you should immediately take advantage of the situation and cut inside that car. Have Faith that they will see you and not try to complete their turn until you have gone. Have Faith! The sixth commandment has to do with getting onto a main road from a side corner. Have faith and gently “push” your way into the on coming traffic. The more Faith you have, the faster you can “push”. The faster you drive, the more you are showing the drivers on the main road that you Have Greater Faith and as Christian drivers, they should be impressed and “Part the traffic” to let you in. Have Faith! Okay I know of many drivers in Florida drive just or even worse that these people do. Remember there is no 95 Highway or any other highway. The average speed is only 30 MPH. plus driving here you will enjoy their style and the way they just give into the pushing guy. I have really seen a lot of drivers just trying to make it to work and back. Thank you for reading this. I how it brought you a small smile and may He bless your day. Bye for now.

This is a STOP Sign here inthe Bahamas Posted by Picasa
A Tongue-In-Cheek Look At Our Drivers Here

This is from an article, that was in the What’s On, a fun paper for the area. So please just enjoy it and have a great laugh. You know as well as I do how we drive back in the states. Not to much better.
The Bahamas is founded on Christian beliefs and actions and so are the commandments as set down in this driver’s manual. First and most important commandment is “Have Faith”. Have faith that you will be OK. Have faith others drivers will look out for you. Have Faith. The second commandment has to do with traffic lights. Green means GO. Amber means GO FASTER. Red means go if you have Faith, you can still get through the intersection. If you are already stopped at a red light, but there is no one coming either way, that also means GO, Have Faith. The third commandment has to do with the STOP sign. A REAL STOP sign has eight sides, is RED and has Large White letters that spell out STOP. The Bahamas Stop sign is round, with a red triangle that represents YEILD and the word STOP. This is clearly not a serious Stop sign, but offers an option. If there really is traffic, you should probably STOP. If you have faith and you think you can get into the intersection, in spite of traffic, then you should treat the sign as a YEILD sign and you should GO. If you happen to find yourself stuck in a line of cars in, form a continuous string of cars and drive as hard and fast as you can to get as many cars as possible through the STOP/YEILD sign. The sign above this is a STOP/YEILD SIGN. Be for now and I will write about the next commandments that follow.

These are some to the Children of Paradise Posted by Picasa

Our Lord has Blessed me. (maybe)

While I was telling the kids about the Camp (Children Retreat). I was standing next to the doorway, I looked down and there was this little puppy sitting next to my left foot. I looked down and then ask, who’s puppy is this? They all said they did not know. So I picked him up and just held him, she just laid in my arms. So after I spoke I gave him to Lis (Camp helper) ask her to give him some food and she even gave him a bath too. So I took him home with me that night and he is already house broken. He woke me around 2am, I took him out and he went the bathroom. Then around 4am, he woke me again went again. Saturday all day he stayed with the kids and me. He is so good. Lis gave him, a name Oscar, during Friday night I thought about how he just appeared, just like Elijah left this earth. So I started calling him that (Elijah), he still doesn’t know his name but, he is pretty smart, in the next couple of weeks he will know it. Then Sunday he was with me all day and now night. I went out and bought him some stuff, food and flea killer. Now the reason I say Maybe, there is a rule that states no animals are aloud in the apartments. There is a girl named Jen Allen, she is moving next week to an apartment that is not part of Adventure Learning Centre. So maybe Elijah will be moving in with her. I will find out tomorrow morning. So that what has happened this last weekend. Okay I took HIM to the Humane Society, SHE has worms,(hook worms). The doctor (Dawn) gave me some stuff to give to Her these next couple of days. She should be okay by that time is up. Now how in the world didn’t I know the difference from a he or she. I just went with the flow, everyone kept calling her a him. So I did look but, she is a puppy remember. Okay that is the end for now. Bye Tom, Phil 4:13

Retreat for Children of Paradise

This last weekend we had 42 children from two orphan’s homes, Children Emergency Hostel Home and Bilney Lane Home. Boy it was a good time for God to strengthen me. These little ones just knew how to do it too. Most of them were really good but when there are a couple that just don’t listen it is a time for prayer and moving on. Well the first night we went to the Planetarium Show (Mark Wallace) at The Media Centre. The kids enjoyed that time. After that we all went out to the Play Ground area. Just trying to wear them out a little. Saturday morning was a time of Devotion and breakfast. Then back over to the Adventure learning Centre for a day of tours and just fun. Petting farm, play ground area, train ride and they held a 6 foot Boa Constrictor. For Bahamas kids don’t really like snakes but these kids did it. After lunch we all went to the Goodman Bay Beach. That really did them in, (tried). Then we had some dinner and games. Camp fire time went very well; I talked to them about Romans Road. They seem to be listening. The reason, we talked about it again this morning (Sunday). They roasted some marshmallows. Then this morning we ate and cleaned up the camp, and then I took them back home. It really was a good time over all. These kids just need some attention. Reason I know this, that is what I tried to do, they listen to me after that time. That is it for tonight. Bye, please give me a comment or an e mail. I pray that some of you do enjoy this little bleep of my life.

This is I dancing with Andy (Dolphin) Posted by Picasa
Dolphins Encounters
This day May 8 2006, we had a chance to go to another island called Sandy Cay or Blue Lagoon Island. This is where Dolphin Encounter is located. You can swim with them (dolphins), for $165.00 or just play with them for $85.00. We had the chance to do the last one for free. We at the Adventure Learning Centre bring in teachers and leaders for different times for showing our place off. That was what this was. So boy, I really enjoy this time. You can see one of the pictures that I have posted. I am dancing with a dolphin. Then during that same time we did only things with them. Our dolphin’s name was Andy. He is 8 years old and very will behaved. I wish some of the children that I work with were that good. After that time with him we had a chance to go in back and get a private tour. They go through 400 pounds of fish a day there. They get their fish from Canada. The reason for that, here at the Bahamas they need the fish for the restaurants and for the people. Plus if you have ever been over here for fish, the prices are pretty high. Grouper dinner goes for $18 bucks. So if you feed these dolphins that kind of fish, this place would go broke in as very short time. There a classroom area for teaching the kids about sea life and other things to do with our earth. So Rolando showed us some of the craft things that they do to explain more about the ocean and seas. It really was worth the trip even if we did have to pay for it. This is a once in a live time opportunity. If you ever plain on coming over here, please try to put this in your schedule to check out. We it is time for me to get going. So at this time I thank you for your time and ask for your prayers, He as called me to be here for another 6 months and I know He will use you all for that need. So take care and may He bless your day. Tom, Phil 4:13

Single's Retreat, loyal servants Posted by Picasa
Singles Weekend

This was our First Retreat from Calvary Bible Church of Bahamas. There was excitement and energy. We started out about 7pm Friday night. At that time we had 8 people, 2 guys and 6 women. I used an ice breaker, questions for women and men about dating. It was a fun time to see if anyone knew how to date. Here is just one of the questions that I asked.
When you take a home from a date.
a) Get out of the car and walk her to her front door.
b) Let her out while you stay in the car and wait till she’s safely inside.
c) Let her out and drive off before she even gets to her front door.
The correct answer is a. The s had some what the same questions.
Saturday it was for Him. We did praise and worship for about an hour. Then our speaker came. His name is Pastor Deanza Cunningham. His main talk was about Maximizing Your Singleness. He used some of these verses, 1 Corinthians 7:24 to 40, Proverbs 27:17, Romans 8:28- 29, Matt 6:33. These all talk about First, marriage. Then about how we are single have so much more to give to the body of the church. Then it is about Him. There was a lot more that he spoke on but by now you are getting boarded. So just to rap it all up, Our Lord was there and boy did He do some work there in our lives. So for being the first single’s retreat I believe it was great fellowship and just listening to what we all are doing with our time. Thank you for reading this and please leave a comment.
