I got a call from Bill, he lives in Spanish Lakes. He was telling me that he needs me to come over and repair his light switch and outlet. AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. PLEASE. So last Friday morning I went over and took a look. Okay, he bought some parts and I did too.
He has a mobile home. Which there really not made like a normal house. Where these light switches are. the wall is very thin. Like 2" So you can see the box I took out. Plus they use 12 wire. Very heavy duty. Really not easy to work on.
So I had to connect the white wires together. The grounds together. Then just put the black wires on the switch.
I wrapped all the wire in tape and the switch too. Put it all back together and it works.
This the cover he bought, it is white. But they are okay with this.
now need to repair the outlet in the bedroom.
Same kind of electric box. From the manufacturer that made the house. So I had to break this box off too.
Got the wire off. Here I could use a blue box, 3" deep. This is a outside wall. Much easier to work on. But still have that 12 wire. What a pain. It is so old, it breaks very easily.
Got the box in and the outlet put in and all is well. I had to run down to Butterfields for a outlet cover plate. At the end, it took me about three hours to get both of these done. But as Bill was very happy. Now he asked me How Much? I told him $110.00. $100.00 for the labor and $10.00 for the parts I bought. WHAT? I told him I charge $50.00 for replacing a switch or outlet. He tells me, how about $40.00 for all? I looked at him and he had a big smile on his face and handed me the $110.00.
Well folks I know it sound like a high price. But at the end it works and it did take me 3 hours to do the job?
I know I am not a pro at any of this kind of work. But if a pro came in he would have charged $150.00 a switch OR a outlet. OR EVEN MORE??
Folks the people I help out really don't have that kind of money. Most of them live on Social Security. Which means, food or repairs. These home are over 30 years old and I know they are falling apart more and more each day. So if I can make it work for a while more, it makes their lives a easier to live.
I have been blessed to be able to help them out and to pass the blesses on to others.
It is all BY HIS GRACE these houses are still standing.
