Okay last week we stopped by Elva's home and do a couple of small projects.
If you look at the shower knobs you can see how easy it could have been. Roy and I went shopping and bought two real nice new knobs that are more like levers. The reason is, Elva has problems grabbing a hold of them and turning them off. So Roy had a idea, maybe try these lever knobs? So we got one off. But the one on the left would not unscrew.
Okay now how do we get the other one off? I was thinking if I cut the old knob with the sawzall. It split in half and came off.Which it did nicely. But the screw was so rusty it just fell apart. So the treads stayed inside the fixture. Okay now WHAT???
Okay Roy and I went shopping earlier that morning and bought two new fixtures. A nice one with the levers. Plus a old style one with the old knobs. Thinking we can put the old style in and put the new levers on it? I talked with Elva and thought why not do the nice one?
Now can I get my hands inside of there? Let us get it done correct and with no problems, LORD.
Cut the old pipes and put in the new fixture. Looking pretty good so far.
I glued it in and did notice the pipe on the right hand side looked like it was no all the way in? Well Roy turned the water on and it didn't leak. Great. But as I was putting the knobs on. That pipe gave way. Some water here and there. But Roy got the water off and thought I guess it was not in correctly? Now how do I clean the old coupling out? Went to the store and asked if they had a copper pipe cleaner, for inside of the coupling? He showed us a battery cleaning tool. Hey that might work? I have one at home. We went back to my place and got it an it worked great. Cut the pipe going in from the cold side.
It worked great. No leaks and hooked up the knobs and all is well. Elva had a couple more small jobs for us. Put on some weather striping on a couple of doors. Then put a handle on the door she uses each day. That way she can hold on and pull the door closed.
We walked away and had some money in our pockets again.
Just to let you all know, we are getting caught up. This project happen on Monday.
